Liznjan

Liznjan is a small village of fishermen with some traces agriculture and family based tourism, although most inhabitants work in Pula. It is situated on the south-east parth of Istra , 12 km distant from citty Pula and 2 km from Medulin. Liznjan Has little over 2000inhabitants on about 60 km2. It has also 27,6 km of seacoast rich with intact beaches.

Four grocery stores, three restaurants, two hairdressers shops, butcher shop, bank and medical station- this is what you can find in Liznjan, and for everything else you could look in Medulin, small town, neighboring liznjan, which is one of the biggest centers of tourism in Istria, with over a million visits per year. Village of Liznjan got its name from roman nobleman Licinium who buildhis summerhouse in this area. There are remains of an iliric fortress Vrcevan, dating from 1800. years B.C. Among the remains of ancient cultures you will find an early christian mosaic from 5th century which was revealed recently in the foundations of the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Kuj dating from 17th century.

Near by this church also was found a piece of an sacrifice altar dedicated to god Libero, bizantinian coin from 12th century, and many other artifact which can now be seen in Archeological Museum in Pula. Although just a village of fishermen, Liznjan has three churches – along with the one we mentioned, there is also the Church of Mother of God of Grace on Munt from 1704. and the Parish Church of St. Martin from 1879. built on foundations of an early, preromanic church from 9th century. Near Liznjan there is more than 26 archeological sites among which the most famous are the cave Šandalja with artifacts from Paleolithic and Nezakcium (Vizače), the fort of the iliric tribe of Histri.
